On April 28, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the All-China Youth Federation held the 23rd China Youth May 4th Medal Ceremony in Beijing. The Center of Hefei Material Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the "Nuclear Fusion" Scientific Engineering Innovation Team, won the "May 4th Medal of the Chinese Youth".
The team independently designed and developed the world's first all-superconducting nuclear fusion experimental device, Oriental Superconducting Nuclear Fusion (EAST,), with complete intellectual property rights, independently developed 68 key core technologies and built 20 internationally advanced platforms and systems. And set a number of world records in the operation of physical experiments.
The most impressive non-tungsten biasing filter is the Oriental superring. According to Ding Rui, a member of the League, the material in direct contact with high-temperature plasma in the "small Sun" is tungsten. If used in accordance with conventional practice, these materials will instantly be corroded by high temperature and will even endanger the operation of the device. East is known as the "artificial Sun." Its scientific goal is to make deuterium and tritium in sea water fuse like the sun at high temperature and provide a continuous stream of clean energy for human beings. As the name implies, the oriental superrings should at least match the temperature of the sun as much as possible.
Last year, the fully superconducting Tokamak experimental device developed by the Hefei Institute of Materials Research team successfully achieved 100 million-degree electron temperature high-temperature plasma operation. Before that, there was no container on Earth that could hold such a high-temperature object. It took nearly five years for the research team to successfully complete the research on tungsten materials.
Tungsten has excellent properties such as high melting point, high thermal conductivity, low physical sputtering rate, high sputtering threshold energy, low fuel retention and low neutron activation. Tungsten is the first choice for plasma-oriented (PFM) in fusion and demonstration reactors. In tokamak, the impurity must be controlled effectively in order to obtain pure thermonuclear fusion plasma. The drawdown of impurities is mainly to control the formation of impurities on the surface of the device wall, the flow of impurities into the main plasma region and the outflow of impurities from the main plasma. The tungsten deflector is used to insulate the plasma from the first wall and shield the incoming impurities as direct contact with the high-temperature gas. Metal in contact.
As the world's first fully superconducting non-circular cross-section experimental device for nuclear fusion, the "small Sun" oriental superring EAST concentrates on the limits of ultra-high temperature, ultra-low temperature, super-large current, super-strong magnetic field and ultra-high vacuum. And, people are proud of: the EAST project's national production rate reached more than 90%, self-research rate of more than 70%.
